Real-time Detection of Hydrogen Peroxide
Ambient Air and On-line Process Control
The advent of aseptic manufacturing technology has led to an increase in the adoption of controlled clean devices for the assurance of sterility. To sterilize these environments between batches and to ensure that cross contamination does not occur, Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide (VHP) is used. The measurement of the VHP in these environments is required for proof of two functions; a high level to ensure sterilization and a lower limit that identifies a purged environment. Historically, two different instruments, utilizing two different monitoring techniques (NIR and electrochemical cells), have been required to perform complete certification of this process, which increases initial and on-going cost-of-ownership (COO). These two techniques have been shown to suffer from sensitivity limitations, loss of accuracy at extreme concentrations, and drift.
Ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) is a technique that overcomes these hurdles, and provides a single analyzer technique for the broad tasks of monitoring and ensuring sterilization and purged concentrations, as well as worker safety levels. Particle Measuring Systems' AirSentry-IMS VHP monitor is based on a field-proven IMS technique that is both highly selective and sensitive to Hydrogen Peroxide in the vapor phase. The analyzer can be configured to monitor only low levels of VHP (0-1000 ppb) or can be used in a dual range mode offering accuracy and precision at both high and low concentrations of VHP (0-20 ppm and 0-2000 ppm) using internal dilution. Optional on-board calibration allows for fast and accurate calibration verifications.
